Systems biology integrates the wealth of modern 'omics data (e.g. genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics) to provide a whole-cell or whole-organism understanding of biological systems.
In 2007 the Centre of Excellence in Computational Systems Biology at The University of Western Australia (UWA) has been initiated with funding by the Department of Industry and Resources of the Government of Western Australia, and UWA. Centre staff and students work on a variety of projects within the growing field of systems biology, with a particular emphasis on plant systems.
The Centre works in close collaboration with the Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence in Plant Energy Biology and the WA State Centre of Excellence for Plant Metabolomics, both also located at UWA. The Centre also has links to the Western Australian Supercomputer Program and various collaborators throughout Europe, North America and Japan.
